- Resolution Systems (now MaxMine) is founded in Adelaide, South Australia.
- The Vision: To revolutionise the efficiency, safety and productivity of open-pit mining operations, worldwide.
- MaxMine pulls sensor data from CAT data link.
- MaxMine’s first trial-site implementation is at Newmont’s Boddington Mine in Western Australia.

Coert du Plessis
Chief Executive Officer
Coert leads digital and data change through scale-up and scale-out; A career starting from a Commodore VIC20 computer on a remote farm to today, leading data and digital change inside the worlds largest resources organisation. Coert has returned to his startup roots working on a scale-up. A regular keynote and angel investor.
The intersection of business and technology is a wondrous driving force for Coert, who trained as both an information systems professional and a chartered accountant, whilst simultaneously bootstrapping a technology company he started in his garage as he moved from high school to university; then into professional service as a senior partner on Big Data with Deloitte, then into a privately held corporate startup and most recently the data change leader for the worlds largest resources company. Coert’s current scale-up has finished its significant Series A raise.
Matthew Long
Director and General Manager Matt joined MaxMine in 2017 and currently heads up our customer function where he and his team work to grow MaxMine’s global footprint and ensures that all new and existing MaxMine customers achieve sustainable improvement in their operations, making them less carbon intensive, safer and more productive.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical) from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Ben Chartier
Head of Product Development
Ben has 10 years of experience in developing technology-enabled professional services consultancy solutions for the aerospace, defence, oil & gas and mining industries.
He has, previous to MaxMine, worked in roles requiring advanced knowledge in modelling and simulation, numerical computing, data analysis, software development, data acquisitions & instrumentation, consulting, management and flight testing. With a strong academic foundation combined with a strong commercial focus he has a demonstrated ability to mobilise technology projects to solve real world problems.
Ben is Head of Product Development at MaxMine. Ben leads the definition and development of MaxMine’s product across IoT, cloud services, algorithm development and web development.
Ben has a Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) with First Class Honours from the University of Adelaide, and was awarded the Mace Bearer award (valedictorian) for his graduating class.
Peter Griffiths
Head of Operations
Peter has 10 years operational improvement experience in the resources sector, delivering improvement mining productivity, as well as fixed plant and mobile maintenance.
Peter has worked across many commodities, including gold, coal, copper, manganese, and iron ore, and has delivered improvement in both open pit and underground mining. He has worked across the world, including Africa, South America, Australia and Southeast Asia.
Peter is Head of Operations at MaxMine where he oversees the successful implementation of the product and improvement initiatives across Client sites. Prior to MaxMine, Peter worked for various consulting firms specialising in the resources sector.
Peter has an MBA from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch.
Jamie Foale
Head of Site Operations
Jamie is a founding member of MaxMine, successfully designing and installing early trials, demonstrations and full site roll outs of MaxMine equipment.
Jamie is responsible for the design, delivery and maintenance of the equipment installed on client site assets required to support the MaxMine product. The Site Operations team works closely with Sales, Implementation and MaxMine product teams to deliver high value projects.
The Site Operations team is focussed on safely installing the right equipment to a high standard, in a consistent way that will support a high growth environment. The equipment operates in a harsh, remote environment; Jamie is passionate about measuring our own performance to maintain the high hardware reliability (and data uptime) that our clients demand.
In addition, Jamie shares responsibility for heading up Human Resources across MaxMine. Our people are our greatest asset and Jamie is responsible for developing and maintaining great employee experiences from start to finish.
Jamie has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Energy Studies) from Murdoch University.
Board and Directors
Tom Cawley
Tom Cawley has over 25 years experience in business, innovation, technology and energy across a range of sectors including automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, oil, gas and mining. Tom began in IOT in the mid-90s, writing automated vehicle testing software at General Motors.
In January 2015, Tom led the founding of MaxMine, securing its first client revenue in March 2015. In late 2015 Tom secured angel investment and an Accelerating Commercialisation grant that funded the roll out of the first full fleet installation with Newmont. Tom oversaw rapid growth of MaxMine revenue and employment, secured significant further grant funding, equity investment and closed private equity in May 2021. Across this period, Tom assembled a highly capable team, delivered large value increases to clients and delivered early reductions in carbon intensity in one of the worlds, “hardest to abate” sectors.
Robin Schleich
Robin has worked globally, helping clients transform performance through building capability in their people and processes by ensuring sustainable digital and technology integration. Robin’s ambition is to help the private sector and state owned enterprises transform their footprints through Sustainability – ensuring we can all be measured on the positive impact we’re having on the environment and people.
He has 14 years’ experience in operational improvement and line management, including 5 years as Managing Director of Lodestone Partners, 5 years with operations improvement consulting firm Partners in Performance and two years as a manager at BHP Billiton. Robin has been part of major transformations in many industries, including metals and mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, agriculture, government, and industrial services. and research and development. recruitment and hospitality. Prior to consulting, Robin spent two years in Business Improvement, and one year developing and implementing Risk Management and Business Continuity Management processes, at BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Materials operations.
In March 2020, Robin led the acquisition of Lodestone Partners by Dupont Sustainable Solutions (DSS), a world-class operations management consulting firm with over 900 staff that was spun off from the chemical company DuPont in late 2019. Robin currently serves as DSS’s Global Operations Excellence Managing Director and is a director on boards for technology and operations companies in both Australia and Africa. Robin has bachelors and post graduate degree in Environmental Sciences.
Marshall Allen
Marshall has primary responsibility for Private Equity at fund manager Viburnum Funds and brings significant private equity experience and operational acumen following a diverse career over the past 30 years across a wide variety of domestic and international markets.
Marshall has worked for numerous high profile investment banks and private equity firms during his career, including ANZ Private Equity, Deutsche Bank, Société Générale and equity derivatives boutique Credit Agricole Lazard Financial Products (as Deputy Managing Director for Asia). His initial working experience started in the 1991 UK recession working in the UK leveraged and acquisition financing for Dai-lchi Kangyo Bank (now Mizuho) where he developed a taste for contrarian investment philosophies.
Marshall is a Director of many of Viburnum’s portfolio companies and a member of the University of Western Australia Business School Advisory Board and chairs the UWA Centre for Business Data Analytics Advisory Board.
Marshall was educated at the University of Western Australia (BCom) and Cornell University (MBA).
